A search operation is underway in Mpumalanga for an armed rapist who attacked two schoolgirls, aged 16 and 17, on their way to school in Mzinti on Monday. According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, police spokesperson, the suspect rerouted the pupils to nearby bushes at gunpoint and raped them.
The victims, who were threatened with death if they reported the incident, courageously informed their teacher upon arrival at school. A rape case has been registered, and an intense search is being conducted around the area.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major-General Zeph Mkhwanazi has assured the public that a skilled team is working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrator. “We will not tolerate a situation where learners are terrified to attend school. We are collaborating with community structures to ensure a breakthrough in this matter,” Mkhwanazi said.
The police are urging pupils to be vigilant when walking in secluded areas to and from school. The suspect remains at large, and the police are working to corner him before he can prey on another victim.
