Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Commissioner Dr. Nomsa Masuku has been arrested for fraud related to her time at Standard Bank, where she allegedly manipulated the bank’s “Adopt a School Trust” program, awarding scholarships to friends.
The arrest comes amidst ongoing allegations of vote rigging in the 2024 National General Elections, with some parties accusing Masuku of accepting bribes to influence the outcome.
According to reports, the funds allegedly stolen by Masuku are linked to President Cyril Ramaphosa, who founded the Adopt-a-School Foundation in 2002.
Masuku has denied any wrongdoing in both the fraud and vote rigging allegations.
She was released on bail pending her next court appearance.
The IEC has faced criticism over its handling of the elections, and Masuku’s arrest has raised further questions about her integrity and fitness for office.
The matter is currently under investigation, and Masuku is expected to appear in court soon.
