The 2024 football season is set to commence this weekend, following a two-month recess. As per tradition, the MTN8 competition will spearhead the season, featuring eight top clubs from last season vying for supremacy.
The revamped cup competition boasts an increased winner’s prize of R10 million, up from R8 million last year, and a participation fee of R1 million, up from R800 000. The two-legged semifinals are scheduled for August 21 and 31, with the final taking place on October 5.
Defending champions Orlando Pirates, who have won the title for the past two seasons, will face Supersport United at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, August 3, at 18:00. Other quarterfinal fixtures include:
– Stellenbosch vs. TS Galaxy on Sunday, August 4, at 15:00
– Sekhukhune United vs. Cape Town City on August 10 at 15:00
– Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Polokwane City on August 11 at 15:00
