In a bold move to challenge the current power dynamics in South Africa, the Progressive Caucus has been formed to unite opposition forces in the Parliament of South Africa. The caucus, comprising representatives from various political parties, has pledged to work together to achieve equality, total decolonization, and economic freedom for all.
The Progressive Caucus Charter 2024, outlines the group’s commitment to dismantling the status quo and promoting a revolutionary path towards true justice and equality. The charter highlights the need for expropriation of land without compensation, nationalization of key sectors, and strengthening of democracy through accountability.
The caucus has identified seven key areas to focus on, including land redistribution, nationalization of the economy, fighting against colonialism, racism, sexism, and imperialism, and promoting the rule of law. They have also outlined a minimum program to achieve in the 7th Parliament, including the revival of constitutional amendments and legislative bills to address various social and economic issues.
The Progressive Caucus has called on all progressive formations and individuals to join forces in the struggle for total liberation and to broaden their collaboration beyond parliament. They emphasize that their struggle is not just about policy changes but about dignity, future, and existence.
