Fashion design students from across KwaZulu-Natal have provided judges with a glimpse of their artistic and creative interpretations of this year’s theme, “Ride the Wave”, for Durban’s premier race day event, the Durban July, scheduled for 6 July at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Race Course.
The Durban July Young Designer Award, presented by the Durban Fashion Fair, has judges struggling to decide on the best designs from over 100 entrants since the competition started on 4 June. Each designer is required to present a race day ensemble that encompasses the spirit of the 2024 theme.
This Wednesday, 19 June, the top 25 finalists will be announced at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, followed by the selection of the top 10 finalists on the same day. The top 10 will then showcase their interpretations at the Durban July Fashion Experience Preview Gala dinner at Gateway and again on stage at the main event on 6 July, where the top 3 student designers will be announced.
The top 3 students will receive prizes to the total value of R700 000, including R100 000 worth of bursaries from the Hollywood Foundation for all top 3, and R30 000 will be awarded to the college attended by the eventual winner to develop their young design talent
