The term “chokers” was on everyone’s lips at the Amos Vale Stadium as the Proteas stumbled to a paltry 115 for 7 after 20 overs against unfancied Nepal on Friday. Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the tournament debutants had the Proteas against the wall at the end of the innings, much to the dismay of the cricketing world.
However, Man of the Match Tabraiz Shamsi had other plans. He ripped through Nepal’s top order, claiming 4 wickets for just 19 runs in his full 4-over allocation. South Africa managed to win the game by a single run, as Nepal could only manage 114 for 7 in 20 overs.
The Proteas top Group D with 8 points, maintaining their 100% record. Their next match will be on June 21st, with an opponent yet to be determined, having already secured a place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies.
