Gauteng Premier Panyaza  Lesufi Unveils New Cabinet

Date:

The Gauteng provincial government has finally announced its new executive council, ending weeks of speculation and negotiation. Premier Panyaza Lesufi revealed the new team on 3 July 2024, at a press conference held at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

The announcement came after failed negotiations with the Democratic Alliance (DA), which had demanded a larger share of cabinet positions and a formal coalition agreement. The DA had requested at least three cabinet positions, including the finance portfolio, as well as the chairpersonship of the Human Settlements Committee. However, these demands were rejected by Premier Lesufi.

The new executive council comprises a diverse team of individuals, representing various political parties.

The full list of MECs is as follows:

– Bonginkosi Dlamini (IFP) – e-Government

– Lebogang Maile (ANC) – Finance and Economic Development

– Matome Chiloane (ANC) – Education and Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation

– Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko (ANC) – Health and Wellness

– Kedibone Diale-Tlabela (ANC) – Roads and Transport

– Tasneem Motara (ANC) – Human Settlements

– Vuyiswa Ramokgopa (Rise Mzansi) – Agriculture and Rural Development

– Jacob Mamabolo (ANC) – Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs

– Faith Mazibuko (ANC) – Social Development

– Sheila Mary Pieters (Patriotic Alliance) – Environment

As the new cabinet takes office, the people of Gauteng look forward to the positive impact that this diverse team will bring to the province.
