Kaizer Chiefs emerged victorious at the Engen Knockout Challenge on Sunday, 7 July, reclaiming their title after a fiercely contested final against Mamelodi Sundowns at Johannesburg’s Marks Park Sports Grounds. The three-day tournament showcased exceptional skill and determination, culminating in Chiefs’ clinical 2-0 victory over Sundowns.
Although Sundowns’ defeat was a disappointment, their ladies’ team secured a notable triumph, dethroning University of Johannesburg to claim the women’s division title. Following a 0-0 stalemate, Sundowns Ladies demonstrated composure in the penalty shootout, emerging victorious with a 4-3 score.
The Engen Knockout Challenge Gauteng leg concluded with the crowning of provincial champions, paving the way for the Engen Champ of Champs. Winners from each province will compete for the ultimate prize of being crowned 2024 champions.
The tournament attracted prominent football figures, including Pitso Mosimane, Desiree Ellis, Themba Zwane, Shandre Campbell, Siyabonga Mabena, and Sphelele Mkhulise, who came to witness the impressive talent on display.
